What to Expect During Your New Construction Roofing Installation
1. Structural Framing
Wood trusses or rafters are set atop the exterior wall plates, spaced precisely, and braced to establish the structural skeleton of the roof.
2. Sheathing Installation
Sheets of OSB or plywood are nailed across the top of the framing members to form a flat, solid deck that ties the frame together.
3. Underlayment and Drip Edges
Metal drip edge flashing is installed along the eaves, followed by a water-resistant synthetic underlayment or ice-and-water shield rolled across the deck to protect against moisture.
4. Finish Material Installation
Shingles, metal panels, or tiles are installed starting from the bottom edge and working upward, overlapping each course to ensure proper water shedding.
5. Flashing and Ridge Cap Integration
Metal flashing is fitted around penetrations like vents and chimneys, capped off with ridge vents along the peak to provide roof ventilation and seal the final seams.
